My Govee Outdoor Lighting Setup: 4 Products I Use Around My Home

I use several Govee lighting products around my home rather than relying on a single lighting system. This guide brings together my Permanent Outdoor Lights, ground lights, clear string lights and Outdoor String Lights 2, using real photos and video from my own setup.

First-hand note: Every photo and video in this guide is from Govee lighting I actually use around my home. Lighting appearance changes with brightness, color, camera exposure and ambient light.

1. Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights

Why I chose permanent lighting

The main appeal was convenience. Once installed, the lights can stay in place and be used for everyday accent lighting, holidays or special occasions without repeatedly hanging and removing strings of lights. That makes the system useful beyond December.

What the installation looks like during the day

One of my concerns with permanent lights was how noticeable the hardware would be when it was turned off. On my house, the light modules and cable sit tucked under the eave. From normal viewing distance they blend into the roofline much better than a temporary strand hanging from clips.

2. Govee Ground Lights

I also use Govee ground lights as part of the exterior setup. They add lower-level accent lighting around the landscaping and complement the roofline lighting.

3. Govee Clear String Lights

The clear string lights provide another layer of outdoor lighting around the patio and backyard, with a more traditional string-light appearance than the permanent roofline system.

I also use Govee outdoor string lights in the backyard. This is a separate lighting setup from the permanent roofline lights above, and the short clip below shows the string lights in the outdoor living area.

How the permanent lights look at night

The effect is different from conventional string lights. Each module throws light down the wall, creating distinct cones or pools of color. Because the system can change colors and effects, the same installation can shift from subtle architectural lighting to a holiday look without physically changing the lights.

They stay up year-round

These aren't lights I remove when the season changes. My installation remains on the house throughout the year. That means the value for me comes as much from avoiding repeated setup and removal as it does from the lighting effects themselves.

What I would think about before installing them

Plan the route before starting. Look at roofline transitions, power access, where cable runs will be visible and where you want the light to wash down the wall. The daytime appearance matters too, so mounting location is worth thinking through rather than focusing only on the nighttime effect.

My overall take on the setup

For my house, permanent exterior lighting solved the problem I wanted it to solve: I get customizable lighting without turning installation and removal into a recurring project. The daytime hardware is relatively discreet under the eaves, while the nighttime effect is dramatic enough to change the appearance of the house.
